THEN and NOW:  A historical look at the famed Starr Piano Company and Gennett Records, plus a live experience with a state-of -the-art, on-location recording facility and post-production studio by “Master Recordings” of Richmond, IN.

Parking: There is street parking on North A Street both in front of the Museum and the Reid Center.  Additional street parking is on North 11th Street.  If needed there is a parking lot for the Museum, behind the Museum that can be accessed from North B Street from going north on 11th Street.

Open House at Sweetwater Studios

The Audio Engineering Society’s Indiana Section and Sweetwater Studios join forces to present an Open House at Sweetwater Studios! Sweetwater engineers Shawn Dealey and Jason Peets will host this event, open to both AES members and students. They will discuss their individual backgrounds plus answer questions about Sweetwater Studios. Particular attention will be paid to their current approaches to tracking, mixing, and mastering both in stereo as well as immersive audio formats. AES Indiana executive committee members will also be on-site to discuss AES’s mission, membership costs, benefits, and more.

(Please note that Sweetwater’s cafeteria will not be serving food during this time. It is advised that attendees plan on eating either before or after the event.)

Studio Tour: Earshot Audiopost

Owners Rick Such and Brice Bowman will provide an overview of their background in the industry, the history of Earshot, its business model and philosophy. They will talk about the range of projects they work on and their client base, highlighting some productions the group might be familiar with. We will get a tour of the facilities and hear examples of what top notch post production sounds like. The tour will cover design concepts, acoustics, HVAC, ergonomics and more.

Technical Tour: College Park Church

Join us for a review and discussion of an existing fan shaped 2,000 seat worship center with a survey of the acoustical design and sound system of the space. David Wright, Principal and Senior Acoustics Engineer at IMEG Consulting Corporation will discuss electro-acoustical factors in a successful venue where acoustical design and sound reinforcement systems work particularly well, and together. Acoustical benchmarks will be reviewed and College Park’s own A-1, Nick Hutchison will also review the AV systems and discuss what works for the room and the system.
